Kochi Pollution Control Board Fails to Submit E-waste Report

Kochi is a place which is lacking of the facilities and companies for recycling or disposing the e-waste in a proper way and there are about 4,000 units working under the Pollution board of Control but they have failed to submit the annual report of how much e-waste have been generated. Electronic waste recycling is the only way to save the environment and yet the place doesn't have any company or factory to do that. As per the rules they must submit the report on the consumption of the product in the county to the board. The rules have successfully applied on 2012 and PCB had asked the units to submit the report. As of Kochi, there are about 4000 businesses including the hotels, hospitals, clinics, labs, and IT companies who is responsible for generating the waste. Only Tata Consultancy Services and Cochin Port Trust is the only companies. Which have submitted the report for 2013. This report was expected back in January but they ignored it.

“E-waste includes computer, mobile phones, tube lights, CFL bulbs, etc. "PCB has no data on how much e-waste is being generated by various units in the district and how they dispose it off. We can take measures for e-waste management only when we get data on its generation and the existing ways of its disposal," another PCB official said.”  Published on a Source.

Currently, the electronic garbage is the thing, in which many business people are seeking opportunities to make environmentalbusiness. Many people are opening their own facilities to recycle the Electronic goods and extract the metals from the electronic devices such as Gold, silver, copper and platinum. There is no facility, but Earth Sense, a collection agency has the permission to  collect the waste. After collection they ship it to Hyderabad to recycle.
