Plans to boost security within the Campus

Questions have been raised over the University of Kentucky intention to spend close to five million dollars to improve its security within the campus. The University depends on two thousand cameras to monitor the security within the compound. The planned security system will include elements which will student identification cards which can track students who are within the building. It can also track those who enter the building after the recommended hours and even locking down doors and gates while in a different location.

 The system will also includes, wireless door phone, DVR and speakers which will be used to warn the occupants in cases there are emergencies. The system is meant to augment the alert system which is usually given through email and text messages.The campus authorities believe that the proposed security system will be capable of monitoring the security system in the compound, therefore helping in protecting the employees, visitors and students in the event of threatening situations including crime, natural disasters and emergencies.

A company names Next Level Security systems has been hired to carry out the installation within the campus. It has been brought into the attention that the cameras which will be installed will not be always be monitored by a person but a video software which has the capacity to detect any strange movement and then send an alarm. This is a similar gadget which works on the same way as Nemesysco security tool. The University authority reports that they are attempting to leverage technology instead of relying heavily on manpower which is at a great shortage at the moment. Reliance on technology has also been hailed for the effectiveness, given that nothing will be missed by the cameras if they are installed at the right place and operated by people who are qualified to handle such sophisticated tool.

It is also believed that the security system will allow the security agents to review any video footage at any time therefore helping in covering of more ground within the compound. The students will be required to swipe their IDs in most of the building including their hostels. The authorities have not disclosed when the system will be ready for use.
